Gustave De Bréanski: Fishing Boat Near Seven Sisters, Oil On Canvas.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Chequers Antiques

Gustave de Bréanski, an oil painting on canvas depicting a fishing vessel on a rough sea coming in to land near the Seven Sisters (East Sussex) with figures waiting by a capstan on a pontoon, with Birling Gap in the right hand background and the cliffs beyond, signed lower left, framed in a period giltwood frame. Canvas size: 24” by 36” (61 x 92 cm)

Gustave de Bréanski (1856-1898) was the son of Alfred de Bréanski and was one of a family of artists. He is particularly known for coastal scenes near where he lived in Kent; and during his lifetime he exhibited works at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, among others.

Condition: Excellent, the painting has been professionally cleaned and revarnished, and the frame lightly restored. The paint has areas of light crazing. The colours are good and the canvas is in good condition. In my opinion the frame is probably the original.
