Large Grand Tour White Carrara Marble Arrotino

A rare large example of a late 19th Century Grand Tour white Carrara marble statue of Arrotino, the Blade Sharpener, after the antique. The original statue is thought to be a figure from a Hellenistic-Roman group representing the Flaying of Marsyas and is now on display in the Tribuna of the Uffizi, Florence. Enscribed ''D[apre],s l''Antique Le Remouleux'' to the base. Nicely carved and in very good condition with a repair to thumb on left hand. French, circa 1890.
