North African Market Scene Oil Painting

A superb oil on artist board depicting a North African market scene. A fabulous work both in technique and composition, painting in thick impasto oils skilfully used to depict the contrast between the sandy white tones and the bright colours of the market and costumes. The composition is superb with much of the work given over to white sand which highlights the colour of the market and the heat of the day. The work is signed to the lower middle but is somewhat illegible but it has to be an artist of some note. The title of the painting is on the reverse which indicates it is the Tunisian city of Kairouan. The frame is original and a fine example of a painted frame probably London made. The painting is behind glass which is to protect the work which has areas of very thick paint. The work is ready to hang and is an absolute little gem. C.1930.
