Pair Of Oil Paintings By William Mellor

A fine pair of oil on canvas landscape paintings by William Mellor (1851-1931). The pair show similar scenes with small streams flowing over rocks in wooded landscapes. One landscape is quite bright and the other cast in shade which makes a lovely contrast. The pair are both titled on the reverse on the stretcher in pencil, the darker scene is Percy Beck at Barnard Castle and the other is somewhat illegible but is in Derbyshire. The paintings are in good untouched condition with some minor old repair. The gilt frames are the original and both have untouched gilding and are in good country house condition. The paintings are both signed ''W. Mellor'' but not dated.
 
William Mellor (1851-1931) is a much sort after landscape painter of the Victorian period, he was born in Barnsley and painted all over the north of England and into Wales. He specialised in detailed scenes evoking the beauty of the countryside in Summer and Autumn. Mellor did not exhibit in the south but did exhibit sever...
