A wonderfully luminous summer landscape by François PLATEAU (1845-1932), depicting a cottage by a brook, nestled behind trees. Plateau was an artist who spent his entire life in Brittany, born in Saint Servan and later active in Quimper, but his landscapes have a universal quality to them. He favoured representations of rural life, and almost all of his work shows country scenes.

An oil on panel dating from circa 1900, the painting measures 31 x 21 cm and is signed at the lower right. Two discreet cracks in the lower section have been restored. The overall framed size is 41 x 31 cm.
