Marion Harvey 1886-1971 Portrait of a Black Spaniel

Description

This is a superb early 20th century pastel portrait of a beautiful spaniel by the well known and renowned artist Marion Rodger Hamilton Harvey. The work is superbly captured with an engaging portrait of the spaniel showing great charm.

Marion Harvey was a very accomplished animal painter born in Ayr in 1886. She lived and worked in Glasgow and specialised in dog and horse painting. She exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Glasgow School of Fine Arts, the Society of Women Artists, the Royal Scottish Society of Watercolour Painters as well as the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Her works are in many collections worldwide but most notably in the possession of the Queen and late Queen Mother. Her work occasionally surfaces at auction with the highest price recorded for a picture by the artist of $5527 for a work entitled “Three Friends”.

The portrait is in excellent condition and in a lovely frame that suits it admirably.

This is a good size being 63 cms by 50 cms overall. The picture itself being 44 cms by 31 cms.
