In the early 20th century, Bowen travelled to Holland, where he painted maritime landscapes and windmill scenes. He went on to form what was later known as the Owen Bowen School of Art. Before his death at the age of 94 in 1967, Bowen exhibited his work regularly throughout England, showing at the Walker Gallery, the Royal Cambrian Academy and the R.A. His work is held in many private and public collections and his paintings are in great demand to this day.
This oil painting on panel by the Yorkshire painter Owen Bowen is an attractive view of "The Stepping Stones" over the Mill Stream at Collingham, close to the artist's home in Yorkshire. The painting measures 12"x 17" and is signed lower right and dated (19)27. This is a lovely fresh oil painting by Bowen painted in 1927, making it a good early example, when the artist was painting some of his best work. It is framed in a good hand finished gilt frame giving an overall size of 18"x 24".
