19th Century Original Signed Etching of Dorchester, Oxfordshire.

19th century
Description

19th century lovely original etching of a village scene in Dorchester on Thames Oxfordshire, titled and signed in pencil by the artist Florence M Leicester, in the original glazed black wood frame, with replaced mount.

This is a very attractive village scene with thatched houses and people going about their daily business. Once an important Roman town, and then the seat of Anglo-Saxon bishops, and an important stagecoach stop, it is a lovely town of timbered and thatched houses and ancient inns. I believe the photo shows The George Hotel, built in 1495, still running, and one of the oldest coaching inns in the country.

Size-11 inches by 12.75 inches overall. 5.5 inches by 7.25 inches opening size.

Weight for shipping-805 grams.

In very good condition and very well executed., this is a charming and collectable piece, a reminder of England for someone who has travelled or lived here.

One of 3 original etchings available by this artist (2 remaining available), which will look lovely hung together or individually.
