18th Century Oak Shropshire Dresser

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Holmes Antiques

A fabulous quality late 18th Century Shropshire Dresser with pierced fretted freeze and Apron in good original condition.

The doors are inlaid with fine Marquetry panels depicting Britannia. The shelves also with shaped freeze, quite remarkably they are concave. Mahogany cross banding and fine black and white line feature heavily throughout the piece. The attention to detail is incredible, it seems there was no expense spared in the making of this piece, which was probably a special commission. The top to the base is made from two matched figured Oak boards. The drawer linings are in good clean original condition and made in pine, the handles are later replacements.

There is a makers label pinned to the underneath of one of the drawers but it is hard to decipher. see images.

The Dresser is a wonderful rich warm colour and would undoubtably look fabulous in almost any house.
