Dating from circa 1950, this unsigned and striking painting is a work by Raoul Pouillat (born 1902), acquired from his estate.

Pouillat was a sculptor as well as a painter. Another still life by the artist is in the Centre national des arts plastiques, a French institution established under the Ministry of Culture and Communication to promote the creation of visual arts.

Measuring 50 x 60 cm, the overall size of the artwork in a more recent frame is 61 x 70 cm.
