Marcel Dyf couldn't have done it any better: here is a wonderful, quietly luminous bouquet of field flowers by Daniel Jaugey, and artist who has been featured on French television.

Born in Lyon, France in 1929, the Jaugey first exhibited with the prestigeous Galerie Carolus-Duran in Cannes in 1957. The South of France and the island of Corsica, the warmth of the people and the mediterranean light suited the artist's temperament. He would continue to live and work there throughout his career, while exhibiting all over France as well as in Portugal, Canada, Hong Kong, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA. The artist obtained numerours award and honors at the Salon d'Automne, the Biennale de Cherburg, and at the Fine Arts Academy of Brussels, among others.

The lovely floral still life presented here was painted by Jaugey in Nice in 1968. Signed and dated at the lower right, it is bears the artist's studio address on the back of the stretcher, as well as the title "Bouquet du maquis" Maquis is the name of areas of semi arid vegetation of the South of France and, notably, of Corsica: the word in fact stems from the Corsican word "machja". The plants and humble flowers of those parts are obviously particularly resilient, and that is what we see depicted here.

Measuring 61 x 50 cm, the oil on canvas is presented in a hand carved wooden frame. The overall framed size is 69 x 60cm.
