Still Life Oil Painting After Albert Francis King

A fine oil on panel after the American artist Albert Francis King 1854-1945. The painting is very unusual in that it is a still life with a small slice of rural landscape behind, this might be an American idiosyncrasy. The quality of the still life is undeniable, I particularly like the gooseberries and peach. The work has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The painting is not signed but bares an attribution to King on the reverse. I think it is likely to be a period artist copying a work by King rather than by King, it is certainly of the style and quality of King himself. Revered as one of Pittsburgh's premier portrait artists well into his eighties, Albert Francis King is now remembered mostly for his meticulously realistic still life works, such as watermelons with a wedge missing, apples falling from a basket or strawberries spilling out of a chip basket.

The work is framed in a period gilt frame which has some old repair but is in good ready to hang condition. A interesting and decorative work with a notable American connection. C.1900
