Japanese Mixed Metal Sennin Okimono By Oshima Joun

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most amusing high quality Meiji period 1868-1912 , circa 1910, mixed metal okimono by a leading metalworker of the Meiji Taisho period Oshima Joun 1858-1940, the figure sculpted in the form of Gamma Sennin (Kosensei) striding over rocks with a three legged frog in his raised left-hand and another frog in a bag in his right hand, the Sennin himself formed of a solid shibuichi alloy, further decorated with a gold gourd and smoking set tied to his waist with his Obi ( gold sash ), the three legged frogs and bag are made of cast silver, the frogs’ eyes picked out in gold and shakudo, artist signed on the back of the rock with a chiseled signature by Oshima Joun, art name of Oshima Yasutaro, 1858 – 1940 , an incredibly well drawn, fascinating and humorous study by a leading metalworker of the period , a great addition to your Japanese works of art collection .
