English, 1866.

James Cole was active between around 1856 to 1893 and is best known for paintings of this nature, figures (especially young women) in rural or coastal settings, and this model features in a number of his paintings. During his lifetime he exhibited over sixty paintings at the Royal Academy.
Condition: Excellent, the painting has recently been lightly cleaned and revarnished. The frame, which is perhaps a little later, is the proper size for the canvas.
