'A Roman Lady' Oil Painting by E.thompson

A fine oil on canvas portrait of a lady with the title 'A Roman Lady' by Ernest Thompson. The painting is a close up study of the figure in thought with beautiful detail in the clothing and hair. The painting is signed to the lower left and dated 1877, the title and details are also on the reverse. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a few very minor holes repaired. The frame is a modern fine quality bespoke gilt one, carefully antiqued to suit the work. The artist does not seem to have been recorded and is most likely to have either been a student copying an old master work or a copyist. The whole has the most wonderful country house look and has great decorative impact. The whole is in excellent condition and ready to hang.
