A delightful, quintessentially Belle Epoque scene of a bustling street, with a vegetable seller's cart in the foreground - he is selling onions and lettuce heads - and an array of elegant ladies and gentlemen in top hats promenading on the grand Boulevard. We can also see an elegant carriage and horses, a military officer in finery, and of course a little girl and her dog. In subject matter, it is very similar to works by Eugène Galien-Laloue and Edouard Cortes from the same period. A hint of nativity adds to our painting's charm - I love the Mary Poppins-like figure who seems to be walking on air. Depicted to the right is probably the Paris Opera Garnier. Dating from circa 1900, our watercolour on paper measures 45 x 29 cm at sight and is signed Villemot. It is presented in a good more recent frame.The overall framed size is 69 x 52 cm.
