Early Antique Greek Icon Painted on Wood Panel Head of Christ

Description

This is an early gessoed wood panel icon with a hand painted image of the head of Christ set into a later Gilt wood frame. The painting is an early original example from around 1750 and is in good order (slight scratch top left on painting) with signs of old worm to the back of the panel as is most often the case with these early pieces. The painting has lovely antique colouration and the 19th century Gilt wood frame compliments the work nicely.

The frame measures 28 cms by 26 cms.

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
