'On the Terrace, Stoneham Park' Oil Painting by Faith Kenworthy Brown

A fine oil on canvas by Faith Kenworthy Brown 1882-1973 titled 'On The Terrace, Stoneham Park'. The work shows a lady alone reading on a Summer day in the gardens at Stoneham Park, which was a country house near Southampton now sadly demolished. The painting is worked very much in the Impressionist manner with emphasis on light and colour, with a use of broad brushstrokes and thick paint. The work is initialled to the lower right, which is typical for the artist and dated somewhat illegibly but appears to be 1907. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The painting does bear the artist label and was most likely an exhibited work. The frame is the original and appears to have been reused by the artist as it retains an old artist label from another work. The frame is ebonised with a thin gilt strip, the frame has a great faded and worn look with the ebony colour having faded to slate grey. The frame does have some old minor repairs.

Faith Kenworthy-Brown is listed as a portrait, landscape and poster artist. She studied at Sir Arthur Cope's School and the London School of Art, and she later became art teacher at St. Alban's College in Saskatchewan, Canada. She exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and several others.

The whole is in ready to hang condition and the combination of artwork and frame make a great decorative impact. The artwork has an evocative romantic feel that is complemented by the frame which is typically Aesthetic movement..
