Description

Grand Tour 19th Century patinated and gilt bronze library model of Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici after the original marble statue carved by Michelangelo in the The Sagrestia Nuova in San Lorenzo, Florence. Portrayed with his mind deep in thought, refelecting his nickname Il Pensieroso (The Thoughtful One). Sitting on a Nero Portoro marble base and stamped 'F. Barbedienne Fondeur' to the side of Lorenzo's seat with the Reduction Merchanique seal of Achille Collas to the reverse. French, circa 1860.
