'Young Man Reading' Oil Painting After Rembrandt

A fine oil on canvas portrait after the Rembrandt original 'Young man reading'. The painting is exceedingly good quality and is a really excellent copy of the original. The work is not signed and this is not unusual for this type of copyist work. The original hangs in Vienna and there is a German stencil on the reverse so it may well have been a copy commissioned by the museum that owns the original. The work has been professionally cleaned and there is an old patch repair in the top left corner. The painting does have a craquelure over it which actually adds to the look and mirrors the original work. The painting was most likely painted C.1900. The frame is English and slightly earlier than the painting being Victorian, it is in excellent condition with some later over gilding and really adds decorative impact to the work. A great interior piece for the instant grand country house look.
