A wonderful landscape of the South of France by the Corsican artist Tony Cardella (1898-1976). Cardella was the quintessential painter of the French mediterranean, working mostly in his native Corsica and in Provence. The airy summer landscape presented here, with a majestic olive tree and and a provençal "mas" was painted in the 1930s, near Nice, as an inscription on the back of the canvas testifies. With numerous one-man shows from the 1920s onward, an exhibition poster of Cardella is in the collections of the Museum of Modern art (MOMA) in New York. As recently as 2018, Cardella's work was part of the exhibition "Provençal Masters" in Saint-Rémy de Provence.

Measuring 50 x 61 cm, the painting is presented in a wood sculpted art deco period frame. The overall framed size is 64 x 74cm.
