Miniature Portrait of a Lady After John Smart

Description

This is a finely painted copy of an original miniature painted in 1765 by John Smart. It is particularly attractive for the lady’s costume detail: a fur-trimmed lemon surcoat over a blue décolleté dress, the neckline edged with pearls with a pink rose on the corsage together with a beautiful white lace turban decorated with blue ribbon.

The portrait is housed in a gilt metal frame with a beaded border, the reverse with a brooch clasp making this a very wearable piece of Georgian art.
