Description

A sensitive and charming portrait of a little girl by the highly reputed French portraitist Fernand Raoul Gaston Henryet de Launay (1855-1904).

His portrait of the actress Amélie Villetard is in the Museum of Rouen, while that of inventor Gustave Trouvé was presented at the Salon des Beaux Arts in 1895. A further portrait is in the Museum of Gannat.

De Launay also painted fin de siècle genre scenes similar to -and as sought after as - those of his contemporaries Victor Gilbert and Norbert Goeneutte.

He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and at the Salon des Artistes François, where he obtained an honorable mention in 1896.

Our lovely Renoiresque little girl with her rosy cheeks is signed and dated 1894 at the upper right.Painted on a mahogany wood panel, the size of the painting is 35 x 27 cm. Presented in a more recent frame, the overall framed size is 46 x 38,5 cm.
