A character portrait of a bearded French gentleman with a furrowed brow and a thoughtful expression. He feels like a character from a Tolkien novel and perhaps he’s a friend of Gandalf’s. We shall never know…

The painting is signed illegibly in the lower left.

Provenance: France

Condition: Areas of paint loss, scuffs and craquelure. However, the paint layer is stable and not flaking. It’s recently been attached to a newer canvas.
