Mabel Lucie Attwell: An Original Work

1920 - 1940
Description

An incredible work of art from one of the most important artists/illustrators of the 20th century: Mabel Lucie Attwell. This is an original work by this artist — not a print or a copy — and it is typical of her iconic style, depicting a young child with her rag doll/ puppet and two animated pixies. It is in pen and ink on board, with numerous artist's tiny alterations and corrections, and is signed in the bottom left hand corner with her instantly recognisable highly stylised signature. Mabel Lucie Attwell, born 1879, enjoyed a hugely successful career with highlights including being an illustrator to Lewis Carroll (in Alice in Wonderland), JM Barrie, and Hans Christian Andersen. This example dates from c.1925 - c.1950 and is in its original frame which retains the original gently undulating glass plate. The overall size is 38 x 47cms. The size of the image itself is 23 x 32cms. A beautiful, charming image, and a fine investment.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
