Description

Charmingly painted, this provincial school watercolour shows a young mother seated with her new baby. Her black dress has a pleated bodice and buckled waist and is offset by a fine white lace pèlerine collar fastened with a gold brooch, cuffs and cap. The child is also dressed in lace and has a cute little cap.

The portrait is set in a handsome bird’s eye maple veneer frame with a gilt slip.
