A fine oil on artist board of a terrier by Walter Herbert Wheeler (1878-1860). A fine and untouched work by the artist, it is signed and dated to the lower right: W.H.Wheeler 1903. Walter Herbert Wheeler was from the famous Wheeler family of sporting artists, he exhibited in London at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street. He specialised in dogs and horses and his work is very desirable. This example retains the original frame which is in good untouched condition. The whole is a great example of dog portraiture and has a great period look.
