A charming and decorative late eighteenth century oil painting on pine panel, depicting a landscape with a small town. The detail is wonderful from the walled town to the winding river, and country house on the hill. The work is typical of provisional, naive or folk artists and as is often the case is not signed. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is good condition. The painting retains the original gilt frame which has a great untouched worn look. It is difficult to locate which particular scene is depicted, it might be England or France. The whole is in ready to hang condition and gives a great period look that would work in any interior.
