Oil Painting 'Travellers on a Mountain Pass'

A fine and interesting oil on tin depicting a mountain scene with travellers stopping by a roadside shrine. The work is beautifully done and the detail of the animals is wonderful. The painting is in excellent untouched condition, it is quite dark in nature contrasting the light in the distance with the shadows cast by the mountains. The painting is not signed but is most likely continental in origin perhaps Alpine, Spanish or Italian. The gilt frame is a Victorian period one that works well with the painting, it has had some old minor repairs. The whole has a great period country house look and is ready to hang. It is difficult to date this work but it is certainly nineteenth century if not eighteenth.
