Early 20th Century Oil Painting on Canvas of Rothenburg

Description

An early 20th century oil painting on canvas of the approach to one of the city gates of Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber in northern Bavaria, depicting a couple passing under the gate tower in a horse drawn buggy, with trees in leaf under a blue sky. Signed lower right ‘Vitorius’, and in a gilt and painted swept frame. Verso a label from Aldridge Bros at ‘The Little Gallery’ (possibly later) in Worthing. Presumably German, circa 1910.

Canvas size: 20” x 24” (51 x 61 cm)

The city of Rothenburg is known for being a (now restored) medieval city.

Condition: Overall very good, the canvas is in good condition, and the painting is clean and well presented.
