Description

A rather risque 19th-century miniature depicting five nymphs bathing alongside a brook. It’s likely to be the kind of piece that a gentleman would purchase on a tour of France to impress his acquaintances (in private).

It’s painted onto copper and housed within its original boxwood frame.

Medium: Oil on copper

Size including frame: 5½” x 6” / 14cm x 14.5cm

Year of creation: c. 1850

Provenance: France

Condition: Craquelure in areas and its darkened due to years in dusty rooms. Frame with age-related wear.
