A beautiful post impressionist village scene with more than a touch of art nouveau, notably in the subtle-yet-powerful colours. This is not surprising, as the artist, Louis Bougeois-Borgex (1873-1959) spent much time in Brittany and certainly encountered the Nabis group of artists

Bougeois-Borgex (1873-1959) initially studied at the Fine Arts Academy of his native Lyons with Jean-Louis Loubet and Castex-Desgrange, and then in Paris with Léon Gérôme. He exibited at the Lyons Salon from 1895, and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1898. In Paris, Bourgeois-Borgex was close to to the Montmartre artists community, Aristide Bruant and, by association, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Our oil on canvas measuring 38 x 46 cm is signed and dated 1915 (or 25?) at the lower right. It is situated Wimille, which is a village in the North of France in the Pas-de-Calais - just opposite Folkstone.

The artwork is presented in a more recent frame by A.Goude, one of the most expensive and exclusive framers in France. The overall framed size is 56 x 63 cm.
