Rare Pair Of Grand Tour Serpentine Marble Molossian Hounds

Good quality and rare pair of large late 19th Century Grand Tour Italian green serpentine marble ''Molossian Hounds'' modelled after the antique pair of original Roman sculptures in the Belvedere Court of the Vatican Museum in Rome. A similar single example known as the Hound of Alcibiades'' or the ‘Jennings Dog’ purchased by Henry Constantine Jennings in Rome in the 1750s can be seen in the British Museum. Rome circa 1890.
