Victorian Watercolour Botanical Study Of An Iris

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine and interesting watercolour botanical study of an iris by Charlotte M Alston. The painting is on ESK stamped paper which indicates it was a work from the Royal Academy Schools in Kensington. It is signed and dated to the upper right: Charlotte Alston May 1886. Miss Charlotte M Alston was a specialist flower painter and exhibited between 1887-1914 she lived in London and exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Academy of British Artists as well as many others. The work was most likely an exam piece, framed later and as such has some marks to the paper but nothing too bad. The mount is later and the frame is a Victorian period faux walnut one (possibly original) both are in good condition. An interesting and fine work by a noted flower painter, which is ready to hang.
