Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1960s.
He exhibited at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture from 1953 onwards, as well as at the Salon d'Automne. In 1961 he signed a contract with the prestigious Galerie Jean Claude Bellier. Edouard Vuillard's godson, Jean Claude Bellier was the youngest-ever art expert at the Paris auction house, and as an important dealer in Modern Art. Having organised important exhibitions in Paris and New York for the Galerie Charpentier, Jean Claude Bellier set up Paris gallery in 1960.
Jacques van den Bussche exhibited there for the next decade, with one man shows in 1961, 1964 and 1970. The painting presented here was acquired from Bellier's gallery at the time, giving it impeccable provenance.
Our painting is an oil on board measuring 22 x 16 cm. It is signed at the lower left by the artist with his monogram JVDB. The overall framed size is 29 x 23 cm. Please see our inventory for a second work by the artist.
