Description

A beautiful little rural scene in the manner of Salon-exhibited Parisian painter, Francois Charles Cachoud (1866-1943). In the foreground, two cows are grazing by a pond, adjacent to a farm cottage. While in the background, a woman stands on a small bridge as she looks across to the last of the evening’s sun.

Cachoud was born in the Savoie region of France and attended the prestigious École des Beaux Arts in Paris. He’s predominantly known for his landscapes, particularly nocturnes and atmospheric evening views.

He exhibited regularly at the Salon in Paris until 1940 and won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1937. Several of his works are held in museums including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Chambéry.

The painting is housed within what appears to be its original frame and signed in the lower right. The reverse bears an inscription ascribing the piece.
