Joseph Kirkpatrick, Signed Aquatint

Description

Joseph Kirkpatrick was a landscape painter, watercolourist and engraver. He was born in Liverpool. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1898 and 1928 as well as at various other venues. The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool holds two of his works.

Some of his work portrays humble farming people at work and have an earthy quality reminiscent of some of the French nineteenth century genre artists, this particular example being a classic example, titled ‘Harrowing on the South Downs’.

He lived in London for a number of years before he moved to Arundel in Sussex in 1916.

In very attractive original frame, new double mount. In excellent condition, signed lower right.
