Victorian Winter Scene Landscape Oil Painting

A fine and decorative oil on canvas Winter landscape scene. The painting is a lovely example of a snow scene with a half fog hanging over the landscape. There are some beautiful touches in the work, the figure walking the dogs, the snow on the cottage, and the mist are particularly nice. The painting is signed to the lower right but it is slightly illegible and I have been unable to identify the artist. It will be a recorded and exhibited Victorian period artist. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is ready to hang, as is typical with paintings of this age there is a fine craquelure to the canvas. The painting is mounted in a much earlier period Georgian frame and this may have been reused by the artist at the time it was painted. The frame is in good untouched condition with the original gilding and has a great tired country house look. The painting is very atmospheric and a good example of the genre with a great decorative impact. C.1880.
