An airy and light floral still life or garden flowers by French artist Daniel Tixier, dating from 1934. There is a calm joy to it: it makes me think of sun-flooded rooms, summer mornings, mature gardens.

There is a lot confusion among art dealers and historians about Daniel Tixier. In fact, there were two distinct artists bearing the same name. One of them lived 1862-1915, and painted somewhat pedestrian flower paintings. But ours is the other Daniel Tixier, who lived later into the early 20th century, and painted flowers and genre scenes with much looser, freer brushstrokes. Although there is almost no biographical information on him, his work is highly sought after at auction. For reference, please see a photo of an auctioned work by "our" Daniel Texier - it is as if the lady were gathering the roses which we see in the vase!

Our oil on panel measures 39.5 x 29.5 at its narrowest: the edges of the panel are uneven, but this is not visible under the fold of a frame. The overall size in a simple frame which has imperfections is 46 x 36 cm
