Description

John Atkinson was born in Newcastle in 1863. He attended Newcastle School of Art and, specialising in animal and landscape subjects, became a full time painter after regularly exhibiting at the Berwick Club, also in Newcastle. He exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, the Institute of Painters in Watercolour and at many provincial galleries and exhibitions.

"Brough Hill, after the Fair" is a very good example of the artist's work. It measures 11"x 19" and is in an old gilt frame giving an overall size of 20"x 28".
