Fine Oil Painting of Brighton Beach by Godwin Bennett

A fine oil on canvas of the wonderful subject of a busy Brighton beach, by Godwin Bennett (1888-1960). The painting shows a busy beach scene with lots going on, bathers and bathing huts, fishermen and boats, and families enjoying the sand on a sunny day. The scene also shows the seafront in great detail heading off to the pier in the distance. The technique used is both thick impasto paint and thinner more detailed work handled with great confidence and skill. Godwin Bennett was an art dealer and self taught artist painting scenes of towns in the West Country and Southern England, originally hailing from Brighton himself. He exhibited at the Royal Academy towards the end of his career in the 1950's. The painting is in excellent untouched condition and signed to the lower left. The frame is a later frame of good quality and works very well with the painting. The whole is in excellent ready to hang condition. The painting is a very desirable subject by an artist with a growing interest, a great combination. C.1930.
