Superb Family Group of Three Georgian Oil Portraits

A wonderful set of Georgian family portraits, depicting a father, mother and son. The portraits are in oil on canvas, and are most likely Scottish as the family depicted are the Macro's. The little boy is the only one with the original name inscribed on the reverse (Joseph Wm Macro, aged two years 1775) but it is obvious that the sitters are a family. The paintings are in the original frames which would have originally been gilded but have been ebonised, most likely in the Victorian period. The paintings have been cleaned and lined at some point, at least over thirty years ago, as have been in the same family for some time. A rare group of Scottish portraits worth further investigation. The whole in good order. C.1775.
