To say it more prosaically: I love Yvette Alde, because she managed to have fire in her belly, and have her wits about her at the same time. That is a rare thing.
Yvette Alde studied at the Grande Chaumière in Paris with Charles Picard le Doux and André Lhote. She began exhibiting her work in 1932, at the Salon des Indépendants. Her first solo show was held in 1935, in Barcelona.
In the post war years, she exhibited with the mythical gallery Drouant-David (who at the same time also had the young Bernard Buffet under contract!) In the UK, she exhibited at Anglo-French Art Centre in London in 1947. The painting presented here dates from this period, when the artist was at her strongest and most creative.
Works by Yvette Alde are in the museums of Deauville, Grenoble, honfleur, Limoges, Montpellier, Orléans, Sete, Toulon, Toulouse, Valence and in several Parisian Museums, in the museums of Eilat and Tel Aviv in Israel, the museum of Pully in Switzerland, the museum of Lodz in Poland, and in many others.
Our oil on canvas measures 38 x 46 cm and is signed at dated at the lower left. It is resigned on the verso, where the artist also noted her Paris address at the Montmartre "Cité aux Artistes". The overall framed size is 51 x 58 cm.
