Fine Oil Painting Of A Horse And Foal

A fine oil on canvas laid to board depicting a horse and foal. The painting is signed to the lower right: John Glass, it is most likely that this is John Hamilton Glass (1820 to 1885). The painting is wonderfully detailed particularly on the horses heads, the cottage in the background is also a nice touch. The painting has been painted on canvas and laid down to a board at a later date, it is in good condition having been professionally cleaned and a small hole repaired. There are some minor marks of discolouration at the very edges of the canvas but they are not distracting or detracting to the painting. The work is mounted in a period gilt frame which it has been in, most likely, since it was laid to board. The frame has had some repair and has the odd mark but overall is in great country house condition. John Hamilton Glass was a Scottish painter of portraits, landscapes and horses. He was elected as a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1849 and exhibited extensively, showing 1...
