Description

This is a very charming oil painting on canvas of a young girl in a bonnet by Theodor Recknagel, dated 1906. Theodor Recknagel (1865 to 1945) was a German artist, well known for his excellent portraits and depiction of children. This painting, of a pretty auburn haired girl with decorative bonnet and lovely lace shawl, is very well executed. The girl has soft brown eyes which engage us well, and a thoughtful calm expression. The painting is in excellent condition and is in a very attractive hand carved water gilded Florentine frame which suits the picture very well. The painting measures 31 cms by 26 cms and is signed and dated 1906 to the top left corner.
