A good Victorian landscape oil by William Thomas Reed (1845 - 1881), titled ‘Windmill on the Sussex Downs’ and signed verso. It is also dated August 25, 79 (1879).

William Thomas Reed was a 19th century English landscape painter who is recorded as living in Egham in Surrey and Hastings in Sussex. He found his subjects in scenes throughout Britain, this one being a local Sussex scene. He died at the young age of 36, having established himself as a well thought of artist.

He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists. His paintings are held in the collections of the Southampton City Art Gallery and the City of Edinburgh Council.

A good atmospheric example, complete in original gilt frame.
