Description

A strong and characterful art deco floral still life by Alfred Lesbros (1873-1940). An artist from Provence in the South of France, born in Montfavet, near Avignon, Lesbros took part in the artistic revolutions of the early twentieth century.

Exhibiting at the Salon in Lyon, and in Paris - at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne - his works can be seen in museums in Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Avignon, Marseille, Montpellier and Tournon.

Strongly influenced by cubism in the 1920s and 30s, Lesbros' paintings remain representative and very individualistic.

The floral still life presented here shows these characteristics, dating from this period. It bears the artist's own inventory number AL-161 on the verso. Measuring 38 x 55 cm, this oil on canvas is signed at the lower right. Overall framed size including a superb Spanish style frame are 54 x 71 cm
