Art Deco Still Life Oil Painting of Flowers

A fabulous oil on canvas still life by D.H.Berger depicting a jug full of flowers, possibly dahlias. The painting is wonderfully Art Deco and very striking to look at. The flowers are painted on a black background which really makes the colours jump out. The quality of the work is to a very high level. D.H.Berger was probably a Swiss artist. I can find out little about the artist but he must have worked as a professional commercial artist as his paintings were reproduced extensively as prints and postcards etc. Original pieces like this painting are very unusual. The painting is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned. The silvered frame is stunning and the original, it is in great untouched condition and only slightly worn in places. The frame and the painting are both stamped for the original gallery in Switzerland that sold the painting. A really stunning artwork, with huge decorative appeal and instant impact. C.1930.
