Portrait of a Lady with a Bird

Description

A fine 19th-century portrait of a lady with a bird. There's a great deal of delicacy in this painting and the artist has skilfully rendered many of the details. Take, for example, the left hand that's gently poised over her elaborately embroidered collar. Each vein has been carefully presented in an almost photorealistic style. The collar itself has also been handled beautifully.

We purchased this painting from a private collection and it's been well looked after throughout the years. It's housed within a later frame and signed in the bottom left.

Medium: Oil on canvas

Size including frame: 34” x 27½” / 87cm x 70cm x 4cm

Year of creation: c. 1880

Provenance: Private collection, England

Condition: Overall very good. Craquelure throughout but the paint layer is stable under varnish.
