West Mill, Colinton, Edinburgh Oil Painting

A fine oil on mahogany panel of West Mill near Colinton, which is now a suburb of Edinburgh. This is a stunning little painting with beautiful work on the buildings, figures, and reflection in the water. The scene shows figures on a bridge over the water, next to the mill, I particularly like the positioning of the pot and fabric over the rail. There does not appear to be a signature, perhaps a monogram on the lower left. There is a label on the reverse which gives the location and also the artist but sadly the artist is illegible. The label is also numbered indicating that the work was most likely exhibited. The painting is framed in the original frame which has been later re-gilded and is in good slightly worn condition. The whole is a very decorative work which has a great look and is ready to hang. C.1880.
